Here we are…kicking off another school year! We don’t exactly know what this year will look like as we make our way through the next handful of months, but I have many new and exciting things planned for everyone and I’m looking forward to getting to know my students and their families. Due to the current circumstances, there are a number of things I would like to share with you:
**Please take a close look at all of the papers in this folder. In addition to the items listed in this packet you will find the “ABC Collectibles” sheet, information on what we will be learning about in first grade, an “All About Me” sheet for your child to work on and a “Student Information Sheet” that I would like you to fill out. Please be sure to do both sides of the form and return it on the first day of school. A weekly schedule and August/September newsletter will be sent home soon…we are in the final planning stages for some of our specials!
**Masks are required while at schools. Your child will be able to take their mask off during lunch, recess, PE, or if we are able to utilize an outside space for an activity where the children can be socially distancing. Please be sure to send your child with a freshly washed mask each day and be sure to keep some extras in a Ziploc bag in their backpack!
**This year WACS has implemented a dress code for our students. Please visit www.wacs1.org, scroll down to the “Quicklinks” area and click on “Dress Code Guidelines” for more information. Please be sure to keep an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack too!
**Hand sanitizer, disinfectant use, limiting time in the hallways, eating in the classroom, and personal supplies for each students are just a few of the things we are implementing to help keep everyone healthy and safe!
**If my class…or the school as a whole needs to switch to “online learning” throughout the year you will be able to find everything on my Google site. This site will be regularly updated with assignments, activities, videos, and links for your child. You will be able to find the link to my Google site by going to www.wacs1.org and clicking on my classroom page. There you will find an “Online Learning” tab that will direct you. I’ll be sending out more information on this as it is needed.
**Water bottles are allowed in the classroom since our regular water fountains can’t be used in the way they have been in the past. All of the kiddos will be asked to take their bottle home each night so it can be washed for the next day.
**Please be sure to pack a cold lunch the first two weeks of school!
**The students will be allowed to start making their way to the classroom at about 7:15 if their last name starts with A-K and 7:25 if their last name starts with L-Z. Please do your best to follow the scheduled times, but we understand if your schedule doesn’t allow it. My class will be entering through the doors at the end of the hallway (east wing…Zumbro Street) where they will be greeted by a couple of staff members who will be doing temperature checks upon arrival. Once they are in the building they will stop at their locker, unpack their things and head directly to the classroom. They will need to put their “take home” folder in their mailbox each morning. This folder will be sent home on a daily basis, so please be sure to check it for any important information. They will also need to take care of attendance/lunch and they will begin their “bell work” until announcements start.
**We will begin our morning at 7:45. Please have your child here accordingly so they can have their morning routine taken care of before announcements. If they will be late, absent, or if their dismissal routine is changing, please contact Mrs. Allen in the office. She will be sure to pass any information on to me. If your child will be arriving after 7:45 please use the main doors on 5th Street.
**We will be dismissing from the same door (east wing…Zumbro Street). We will be staggering dismissal times…ours will be at 2:07.
**We love to celebrate birthdays as a class! Special treats are welcome…however; they need to be store bought. If your child’s birthday is during the summer or on a no school day I will be sure to contact you to set up a date to celebrate! Please do not bring birthday invitations to school unless the whole class is invited. This will help us steer clear of any hurt feelings!
** I ask that the children do not bring toys, smart watches, etc…from home. It tends to cause many conflicts between children throughout the day and I would hate to have items broken or lost because they are brought to school. Each child will have a “Super Star” week where they can bring special items from home to show the class.
**If you didn’t bring in all of your child’s supplies, please do so as soon as possible. The items are listed below:
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have. With your help and cooperation we will be able to do our best to keep everyone healthy and safe. I’m looking forward to a great school year!
