Hello! Happy Monday! What beautiful weather we have had this past week. It is hard to believe that there are only 35 school days left in our school year! It seems like only yesterday that we were beginning our school year! I can honestly say that I am not ready to let these kiddos move on to first grade! They are such a great group!
We have had a busy March! First of all, we had our lunch time picnic today for earning 50 cotton balls! The kiddos were very excited to eat lunch in the classroom today! We are already well on our way to our next reward. We have already earned 24 cotton balls throughout the last week! We haven’t decided what the reward will be yet but with the weather warming up, I am guessing it will be something fun outside!
In Religion, we have been learning about Lent and the Stations of the Cross. We also learned about Zacchaeus and how important it is to treat each other with kindness. We have also been learning about our “Circle of Grace.” “Circle of Grace” is a safe environment program that is being taught by all of the schools in the Diocese of Winona. The purpose of this program is to educate and inform youth about the value of positive relationships with God and others. As these Circle of Grace papers come home, discuss them with your child. Also talk to them about adults they can trust to talk to! The students learned about trusted adults, or in other words, adults they can trust to talk to. They drew a picture of a trusted adult and also learned how to ask that trusted adult for help. The kiddos did a great job with this. Please discuss these papers with your child. The papers do NOT have to come back to school! Thanks so much!
In Math, we have been working on number bonds. This is the first step in learning addition. It is putting groups of numbers together without using the “addition” or “equals” symbols. Next we will begin learning about addition and subtraction!
In Reading, we continued learning about weather. We focused on the letters “Bb,” “Ee,” and “Ll” as well as the words, “and, this, do & what.” Next week we will begin learning about plants! Please have your child keep practicing his/her decodable books and sight words. I cannot stress the importance of reading these books and words as often as possible! The more exposure the students have to these books and words, the more successful they will be as readers! Thanks for being a partner in your child’s education!
Next, we have a different incentive for the Book-It program during the month of April. The Pizza Hut Book-It program that we have been doing all year ended in March. However, I would like to keep the kiddos actively reading in the months of April and May. Therefore, attached to this letter is an April calendar. Please have your child keep track of the days that they read and send it back to school by May 10. If your child reads for 15 minutes each day and returns his/her April calendar, they will receive a certificate for a free mini pizza from Suncrest Gardens. Suncrest Gardens is farm in Cochrane, WI where they make wood fired pizzas right on site! Personally, I haven’t been there but I have heard wonderful things!
The last book orders of the year will be sent home in a few weeks! If you are interested in ordering books, please feel free to order online or return your book orders back to school! I know it seems too early to be the last book order but I want to make sure the books are here before the school year ends!
Finally I would like to remind you that I value your input as a parent! If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please don’t hesitate to ask! My email addresses are firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks so much!
