DECEMBER  MUSIC  NEWS

Congratulations to all the students of St. Stan's for an outstanding performance for their Christmas Concert.  Special thanks to Miss Welch for accompanying us, and to Mr. Ballard and the World Drummers.  You can find pictures by clicking the Christmas Concert pics on my site.

We're back into the swing of things in the music room.  Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will continue to work on note identification in the treble clef.  Grades 5 and 6 will also continue working on note identification in the bass clef.  They are all working to pass the proficiency assessment.  Their work continues on rhythmic skills which include whole notes , half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, and sixteenth notes, and all corresponding rests.  Grades 3, 4, and 5 use their iPads to reinforce these skills.

1st and 2nd graders will also be working on rhythmic skills.  They're learning about 2 unequal sounds to a beat and 3 equal sounds to a beat.  They will learn a speech piece, A Modern Dragon, that uses these rhythms.  They will accompany the piece with rhythm sticks.  They will be listening for dynamic changes in music and will be following their listening maps on the Smartboard.  They will also learn to signal when they hear chordal changes in the music.

Wishing all of you a very Blessed and Merry Christmas!
